This and That and the Other Thing

I think this has been a record week for comments here at the Sanatorium. Thanks! I truly enjoy reading everything you say.

Pictures of Tucker pulling the kids in our irrigation water. What are we going to do without our biggest brother around? I just don't want to think about it. Luckily, Ben is catching up--he's grown 8 inches in two years and gained 15 pounds in six months. Whew!

If you are interested in the big calendar I use, Staples usually carries it. But if you can't find it there, check online. Mead makes it, and I order it in packs of three. LOVE that thing. I've used the same model for at least 5 years now.

Slob Day is a fave with my younger kids. No chores, no work, no real meals, no responsibility for an entire day. My older kids are realizing the ramifications of such a day on the next day, so they don't want to do it this year. I chose next Friday, since it's the first day of summer, and things won't be too bad around here.

Oh, my Baby A. He's almost three now. I'm sure he doesn't remember us at all. As far as we know, he is still living with his grandma on the Navajo Reservation in Jeddito, AZ. Google Earth that place. Yuck. We weren't really aware of the restrictions on Native children before we fostered and fell in love with him. I mean, we kind of knew, but not really. And I would advise anyone I know against getting involved with the tribes. There are plenty of kids out there that need homes. It just gets ugly with the tribes. A piece of my heart will always be wondering about him.

As far as my political rant goes, y'all seemed pretty much in agreement with me. I'm not real sure where the "dump on Phoenix" came from, Momza. I had one friend email me about it. I know it's hot, I know it's inhospitable much of the time. But it's home. I always welcome alternate viewpoints, so don't hesitate to share again!

And it sounds like that Tooth Fairy needs a new job! Is there a better way to remind her of such things?

Happy weekend! See you Monday!

  1. woot woot! i'm #1...well, atleast as far as your comments go. ;)
    atleast tonight.
anyhow. slob day. i like it! i'm pretty sure that's what today was for me. daisy had no school today, and yesterday was my last day at the office until they need me in a pinch again, so i've spent today loafing around. just re-cooping.
only thing that HAD to be done was piano practice & practice & practice!
tomorrow's daisy's 1st-ever piano recital. she's been slacking lately, so i told her that's all we were doing today. she frowned. but i am happy to report that this evening, she actually thanked me for it.
i think not leaving the house made it WAY easier to focus. don't get me wrong, i'd let her take breaks every so often. but i absolutely HAD to be a hard-nose about it today. cross your fingers that tomorrow goes well, and she's even more grateful for today! =)
    have a fab weekend.
    p.s.
wish i'd had an older (permanent) brother that would've pulled me around in the irrigation water! luckeeeeeeee.

  2. what an awesome older brother! is he going away to college or staying local(I'm new here so don't know all the ins and outs)? In regards to Phoenix, I love it and call it my second home since my best friend lives there (Kierland area) and we visit her quite often. The scenery is breathtaking, but i guess it doesn't suit all tastes. have a great weekend!

  3. Well, I've never been to Phoenix, but I know lots of people who make it their winter address. Hot and dry sometimes seems like a dream up here where it's misty and cool for three of the seasons. We're going to Vegas next week - not to gamble, but because it's SUCH a good deal, and we're guaranteed some sunshine and pool time!

  4. I love Phoenix! It's a great spot. Although I've only ever seen it in May. Still, it's very nice.

I love those photos. It's nice that they have a big brother to have fun with. :)

  8. What a great family you have! I love how they all take care of each other (in between the squabbling, I'm sure) and I know your son will be sorely missed. But the letters home, and the growth you see are SO rewarding and worth your sacrifice.
I've never been to Phoenix, but my daughter and family will probably be making it their home for the next year (well, actually Mesa), so I'm sure I'll be making many trips! Her husband's family lives there and they love it.

  9. Our Tooth Fairy forgot our house once. You've never seen my husband move so fast. While he was moving very quickly, I asked my daughter, "Did you check everywhere? Sometimes if you move around a lot at night, things can move around. Did you check on the floor, behind your bed, under your bed?" Sure enough, just as dad was coming back into the kitchen, she decided to look again and there it was tucked behind the bed frame. Phew, that was a close one.

PS I'm still waiting for my question about reality shows to be answered. Curious if you watched Survivor...

  10. Thanks for your visit the other day-so nice to meet you! I have been having a great time reading some of your older posts but I can see I need to go back and read some more...
Being an Aussie I have only heard about a few minor details about what has been going on in Arizona but I think I need to read some more. We spent a few days in Phoenix a couple of years ago and loved it there so I am interested to know what this tax is all about.

I will definitely go and read about your foster care stories too.

Best wishes for a beautiful weekend,
    Natasha.
