Dear State of Utah

Dear State of Utah:

One observation: Raising the speed limit to 80 miles per hour in selected test areas along I-15 is proving quite profitable. I was unaware that the limit had once again been lowered to 75 when a state representative kindly brought it to my attention.

I shall provide the appropriate documentation and restitution not before 5 and not after 14 days.

And thank Officer Gifford for me. I think the correctly clocked speed was 95, not 90.

  1. Hint for husbands: If your wife is driving 95, and she says she got pulled over because she thought the speed limit was 80, DO NOT say something like, "Well, even if the speed limit had been 80, you would have still got pulled over because 95 is still a lot more than 80." No, do not say that. Instead, eat some licorice and look peacefully out the window.

  2. Excellent advice from a wise man.

  3. 95!!!!!!? Are you kidding me? Do cars (I mean besides sports cars and police cars) even go 95 miles an hour? Figures...I get clocked for going 57 in a work zone around 7;30 at night. I was going to argue that no one is working at 7:30 pm, but I confessed and he lessened it to a 1 point ticket. 95! Sheesh.

  5. Oh dang! That really stinks that they have those obvious speed traps. Good warning though, thanks. Nice picture, Brad. That is a crack-up.

  6. Well that SUCKS! Especially bad because that is a criminal speed. I should know, i got a ticket doing that once. Sorry!

Good thing Brad didn't say anything snarky to you and just sat and quietly ate licorice! Yep! He's a keeper that Brad.

    Just glad you're home safely.

  7. Best thing ever: Brad taking a photo. He's a keeper. Even better if he took one just after saying, "Hey, Honey - want me to take a photo for your blog?"

    Perfection.

Oh, and congratulations on the ticket. Well done, lead foot. :)

  8. Only a blogger would take a photo of that!!! Love it!
Good luck with that ticket! Yikes!!

  9. 95? You rock! My husband hates when I hit 85 in a 65 mph zone. He has no idea what goes on in my car when he's not around.

  10. oh my!!!! 95!!! yes, the story is perfect with a picture!!!!

  11. Bwahahaha! You always make me chuckle! It reminds me though of that darn 101 FWY in Arizona my friend...you know where all those speed trap cameras are in the middle of construction zones. So that at one section it's 55 then 65 then 55 again. 2 tickets we received on our last visit, 2! Well, at any rate, good luck my dear :)

  12. and now I am laughing even more because I just read Brad's comment. Oh, you're right, I can see some of my own silly husband in him too. he also likes to write comments on my blog to slightly poke fun at me :)

  14. DO you want to go to traffic school with me? I haven't scheduled mine yet. I have three to take care of but I can only go to school for one. It would be fun to have a buddy with me while I sit in class with a bunch of loser law breakers.

  15. Brad: wise words, albeit too late for you, but wise words nonetheless. Jen: I also am a lead foot, luckily not pulled over though. Those stretches of open in UT are the worst too, I find myself inching toward 95-105 you know, without even realizing I'm going that fast.

  16. living in Germany for 3 years where there is pretty much no speed limit proved profitable for my state as well...many a speeding ticket I've paid.

  17. Too funny. I would have loved to have seen your face when Brad said what he is now recommending other husbands not to say!

  18. I think my car would rattle itself apart at that speed!

  19. My van has built in protection against that sort of ticket. It shakes somethin' awful over 65. Sounds like in Utah, I'd get pulled over for drivin' too slowly! Your hubby is really cool. Keep him around.

  20. Oh those boys in Utah - they'll pull you over every time. I don't think I've ever been through there and NOT gotten a ticket. I love your husband - what a great guy!

  21. I'll consider myself warned - in Utah, I guess that the speed limits are more than just suggested speeds!

  22. I just had to laugh at Brad's comments! And for him to capture it on your phone is priceless!

  24. LOL at Brad!!

In South Carolina there is a stretch of road that goes from 55 to 60, to 65, and then back to 55 and so on. It's about 50 miles of that non sense.

  25. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is great blog. A great read.
