The Cure

I got a flu shot. I got my flu shot at Safeway to procure the entire-purchase 10% off coupon (and saved over $23, thank you).
I felt yucky afterwards. Achy, hot then cold.
I took a bath in my glorious tub (for probably the fifth time in four years). I soaked with salts and a magazine.
I took Motrin and went to bed early.

I woke up many times in the night, knowing this wasn't a reaction to the shot. I knew I had strep.
I went to the doctor's urgent care clinic at 7 am. I got a quick-strep test.

I had strep.

I went home. I wanted to sleep and curl up with a blanket, a pillow, a jug of orange juice and a lot of HGTV, but . . .

I had kids to mother. I had a messy family room to straighten. I had lunch and dinner to prepare. I had homework and piano practicing to monitor. I had carpool to manage.

The cure wasn't a bath or blankets or rest.
Three doses of amoxicillin later, and I was headed back to normal.

I took the last pill yesterday.

I still want my day curled up with the blanket, pillow, orange juice and HGTV.

Maybe in sixteen years when Evie's in college . . .

Linking up to Jenny Matlock's Alphabe-Thursday.

  1. When you have kids, you just can't stop :(

Glad you're feeling better. I'm allergic to penicillin, so your meds would have made me decidedly ill!

  3. One thing about strep. At least it clears out fast with the antibiotics!

And guess what?! You won second place in my giveaway! You don't get to choose your quilt, but you do get one!!

I know I have your mailing address somewhere, but would you send it again?

Congratulations, Jen. Couldn't happen to a nicer person.

  5. I've never had strep before...but some people just to seem to get it easier than others. And flu shots, my son throws up for hours every year after getting a flu shot. The DR says its just a "coincedence." We decided he's not getting one this year!
    Feel better Jen!

  17. I'm glad you're feeling better. I got my last flu shot about 3 years ago and I came down with the meanest, worst case of flu I'd ever had. So I don't get one anymore. You won the quilt though - that's awesome!

  19. Sorry to hear about the Strep... Don't you just hate it when you get a flu shot and then you get sick right afterwards? And you're right...there's no sick days for us moms, especially when you have kids and a family to take care of. Glad that you have the medication to help you recover faster. Hope you get better soon!
