Lily's Big News

We walked into the orthodontist's office this morning for an evaluation.

Lily walked out looking like this:
She has been wanting braces for months now, but her baby teeth refused to fall out.
They happened to have a cancellation this morning, so when they extended the offer to get started this morning, Lily literally jumped up and down and begged me, "Please Mom please Mom please Mom."
No better time than the present, right?  Might as well start the inevitable process.
Now she just has to go to school and pretend to act like she's not excited about them, right?  Isn't that what all the cool kids do?

She only has a 18-21 month plan, so she'll still have them on when Tucker gets home in 15 months, but she'll be almost done and her teeth will be straight!

Now let the toothbrushing nagging begin, right?  I've been to this show three times before, I know how it goes.

  1. She actually excited to get braces? Mine never felt that way.

I guess it makes her feel older to be in this phase.

She is such a cute girl.

  4. It really does amaze me that kids can be so thrilled to get braces. I'm so glad I DIDN'T need them! All 3 of my kids had orthodontics of one kind or another so I've definitely been through the same 'show'. My youngest had them removed last summer after almost 5 years - he finally started wearing his bands with the threat of having to wear braces in college!

  5. Boy, I was NEVER excited about my braces! Of course, mine were just the straight silver ones. I hope she doesn't have to have that expander thing that expands your bite with an evil little key. My kids hated that. I can't believe what a pretty girl she is, Jen. She's growing up!

  8. I'm sure the excitement will last less than 12 hours. And then the pain sets in which will be accompanied with whining. Her teeth will hurt, her cheeks will be cut and all the sudden, the excitement of braces wears off...and then mom won't stop nagging about brushing. Good luck Lily!

  10. Lily is such a pretty girl. I can't imagine that braces will do anything by 'gild the Lily' (sorry, I couldn't resist!). I wish her a good time of it and a swift passage of the 15 months.

  11. so envious that you have enthusiasm on your side ... my youngest will need braces as soon as those baby teeth are out (@18 months 'til then) and she is dreading the whole thing ... wish lily could give my baby a pep talk :)

  12. It's interesting she wants to get braces. I remember how much I hated it when I got mine. It all ended up being a waste since my wisdom teeth grew out sideways and ended up forcing all my teeth crooked again.
