It's That Time Again--Lily

Catherine was spot-on when she mentioned school shopping--we're right in the middle of it!
School starts on August 8th, and with the Denton clan taking such a large chunk of summer to drive across the country and back, we had to squeeze school shopping in with the rest of the world--right before school starts, instead of during the summer when things are actually on sale.

It was worth it, but it has made for a few crazy shopping days around here.

Lily, being the only girl heading back to school, was the most excited to spend time shopping--and shopping and shopping.  I'm not a big shopper, so Lily's unquenchable appetite for one more store and one more stop was a little exhausting.  But we had a great time.
Big fashion must-haves this year--colored skinny jeans (in fire engine red and a limey/lemony yellow), cardigans for layering, and grey Vans.
Lily is in that weird stage of "what size is she?"  Shirts are women's small/extra small, while pants range anywhere from girls' size 10-14.  This dress is women's small--when did she get that big?
She is growing up before my eyes. Seventh grade is a hard year--finding where you fit in, trying not to draw too much negative attention to yourself, avoiding being embarrassed by your stupid mom with a camera at Target.

My favorite part of shopping with my kids individually is talking to them and having undivided listening time.  Lily is pretty tight-lipped these days, wanting to be independent, but still needing a little approval from Mom.   I hope she can make it through this first hard year of junior high, finding out a little more about herself, but still remaining true to the things she knows are right.

Love this girl, and I can't wait to see where seventh grade takes her.

  2. My twelve year old sounds so like Lily - getting in to fashion but not quite big enough to shop in the right stores. She has also started a new school this year - one that she'll attend until the end of her school years before university. It's amazing to see them seemingly grow before your very eyes and wonder where your baby girl has gone. Hope you found everything on the list and good luck with the boys. I find it so hard to get my 14 yo boy to go shopping so hope it's easier for you. Cath

  4. She is such a beautiful girl, Jen! She looks like so much good fun -a mix of girly-girl and tomboy. My absolute favorite kind of girl!

  5. What a beautiful girl. There's a look about her that makes me think she'll do just fine. She doesn't look or sound like a pushover.

  6. this brings back so many memories of shopping with my stepmom for back to school. it is still my favorite thing to do with her b/c it's when we get away from everything and just get to chat. my parents are coming early november and i can't WAIT to go shopping. we usually just buy stuff for my kids now and i still love it just as much even though i'm not getting something for myself b/c it's just fun to have her all to myself:) love that hairband on her. so so cute.

  9. Very interesting article. I would love to read the book “Start with Why”, by Simon Sinek. I think he has taken a great topic to deal with. Teaching leaders to inspire others is a good idea to bring up a civilized society. Thanks for sharing. Keep posting.
