Two Black Eyes. Two Brothers.

Look past all the missing teeth.
Look at the pale greenish bruise and mark around Hyrum's right eye?  How about the scrape under the left eye? Wonder how my darling baby boy came to have two black eyes at the same time?

The story of the right eye:
The boys had friends over for the afternoon and they were playing in the basement.  They love to play games where they form two teams and the teams dodge balls thrown at them by the opposing team.  We have ball pit balls, and these are usually the projectiles of choice.  The four boys were engaged in a heated battle, when Hyrum came running up the stairs, holding his eye and crying.

"Micah threw one of Eve's cupcakes (hard plastic) and it hit me in the eye.  But it was an accident.  He didn't mean to."

The story of the left eye:
The boys were getting ready for Church on Sunday morning and they were looking for Micah's Sunday pants (and screwing around in their underwear after showers, that part must also be disclosed).  Micah had dumped out the dirty clothes hamper to look through the clothes. He squatted over the pile and dug through the clothes, throwing them behind him like a rabbit digging a hole.  As he neared the bottom of the pile, he happened to snag a soccer cleat, which he then projected behind him at lightning speed--connecting with Hyrum's left eye.

"Micah threw his soccer cleat across the room and it hit me in the eye.  But it was an accident. He didn't mean to."

Two brothers. Two eyes.  Two stories.  Same explanation. Funny thing is--I believe them.  I do think that both black eyes were accidental and that Micah really didn't mean to blacken both of his brother's eyes.

When I sent Hyrum to school on Monday, I wondered if anyone said anything about him sporting two black eyes.  He said his teacher had asked him what had happened and he had told her, "My brother did it.  But it was an accident.  He didn't mean to."

I wonder if she was a little suspicious of this explanation.

If CPS comes knocking at my door, I know exactly what to say.

Micah did it.  But it was an accident.  He didn't mean to.

  2. hahaha

Gotta love it, having had three boys myself. And oh, how well I remember the ball-chucking. I used to hate that and ask them not to aim at each other's heads. But they didn't listen.

They still don't! Not that long ago, they reverted to their ball-beaning behavior in the pool.

    Sheesh.
