Yesterday

I spent more hours in my bed than I have in a long time.  Bed by 7:30, up at 8:30.  Back in bed at 10:30, up at 12:30.  Napping on and off the rest of the day, then in bed to sleep before 8 pm.

This flu is a bad one.  I've never had one this bad.  Ever.  Chills and fever.  Aches that rival any post-marathon pain.  Body-racking coughs and window-rattling sneezes. Headache that no amount of medication could temper. And an exhaustion that makes coherent speaking a challenge.

Brad juiced me a huge glass of orange juice (it tasted like the nectar of the gods--nothing is better when you're sick than freshly squeezed OJ), and I sipped it all day.

Evie spent the day at my sister-in-law's house (thanks, Amy!), having adventures without me, and when she came home, she turned into my nurse. (nice iPhone pictures in the virtual darkness)

She brought me toys to play with and tucked the blanket around me.
She snuggled me and repeatedly asked me if I felt better and if my fever was gone yet.
Although the nursing was nice, two things helped me mend faster than anything else.
Four-year-old forehead kisses
and Tamiflu

They had to look at three pharmacies before my prescription could be filled--must be flu season.  I can't believe how much better I feel today.  I woke up so happy--minor aches, no headache, no fever.  I'm back up to 65%, I'd say.  From about 2% yesterday.  And that feels fantastic!

Unfortunately . . .

. . . flu is contagious.

This may be a long week.

  1. Sounds like the worst flu ever. Glad you are on the mend.

  2. Tamiflu really does work.

One year I caught the terrible flu, just like you did this year. I've gotten a flu shot ever since. It was a nightmare.

PS. Don't pick up your regular activities too soon. Rest for a few days!

  3. Oh dear - big SYMPATHY to all of you. I'm hoping that the flu shots we got in November will carry us through.

  4. UGH! I'm glad you are starting to feel human again. Hope your kids mend fast. Kids seem to handle it better than adults. My son got sick recently with the flu but somehow my husband and I avoided it. Hope you recover quickly!

  5. Ooo, the flu... yea, I caught it once when I was pregnant with E and it was horrible. I have been getting flu shots every year since. I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better! I hope your kids feel better soon!
