On This Day

I never tire of hearing it.
No matter where--grocery store, church, a quick run-in at a play.
No matter when--halftime, lunchtime, late at night.
No matter how--Facebook, text, email, or face to face.

"I read your blog."
"I read about that on your blog."
"I think I know you. I read your blog."
"I already know. I read it on your blog."

Thank you.

I love the emails, the comments, the texts, the quick encounters in different places.

Today is a hard day--much national and personal mourning. While there is so much heartache, so much fear, so much sadness, so much pain, so much injustice, so much evil, so much rage, so much that is wrong, I wanted to focus today on a tiny bit of gratitude.

Thank you. Thank you for your kind words. Your friendship. Your encouragement. Your compassion. Your humor. Your tolerance. Your love. Your understanding. Your patience. Your support. Your advice.

And most of all, thank you for the time you spend reading about all that swims around in my head and lands in this corner of cyberspace. Blogging creates a uniquely 21st Century community of people. Some you meet. Some you hope one day to meet but they live on the other side of the world. Some you know. Some you don't but you somehow do know them through fiberoptics and WiFi. I don't know all of the reasons why I write what I do, but one reason is you. Thank you. Your comments and friendship make a difference in my life. I just wanted you to know that today.

If you ever see me across a crowded restaurant or at a football game or at Sam's Club, I hope you stop me and say . . .

"Hi. I think I know you. I read your blog."

I would like to know you, too.

  1. Your reflection in a puddle? Perhaps at that amazing amazing place you've created in the Arizona woods?

    1. We took a hike over Labor Day weekend while staying at the cabin and found this paradise just a few minutes south of our property. More pictures to come!

  2. Thank you Jen, for letting me in to see parts of your life and some of your thoughts on all sorts of topics. I hope to meet you some day, whether it be in Arizona or in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Great photo although I wouldn't have figured it out but saw KiwiLisa's answer. Another kiwi - just goes to show how your blog is read from all over the world.

  3. I've followed your blog forever even though I don't comment often. When I was in Arizona a few months ago I looked for you while I was out shopping, just in case I would run into you. :)
