Finally Fall in AZ

How do you know it's FINALLY fall in AZ?

Is it scalping the lawn down to "razor sharp" (as Ben was quoted during this chore)?*
That's part of it.

High: 89 Low: 73
Forecast 60% chance of rain

Is it this forecast for today, with a high below 90 and a low around 70?
That's part of it.

The true sign that fall is here isn't changing leaves or frost on the ground or sweaters.
It's kids wearing shorts to play in the rain, but needing a towel to still "keep warm."

I knew it would get here sooner or later!

*For those unfamiliar with AZ, we actually overseed our lawns in the fall/winter with rye grass so that we can have green grass all winter long. And it's a chore. And it's worth it!

  1. This week is our first real taste of fall, too. I'm loving it!

    =)

PS. Not sure I would like the Arizona version of fall, but then it's all relative, isn't it?

  2. They're going to need a lot more than a towel to keep warm in the rain we're supposed to keep getting up here this weekend! So excited, by the way!

  3. Rye grass. huh. That's a really smart way to keep the lawn going. And I love sweaters and flip-flops in the fall, I'm not sure if I could handle your 89/70. I'm loving 65/40 right now.

  6. Jen, that rain yesterday and temps in the 80s meant soup for us for dinner and my kids wanted a fire and hot chocolate. You can tell we are desperate for fall!

  9. Your climate is such a mystery to me - so different from our grey and misty Pacific Northwest. I'm glad to read that you're finally having some relief from the baking summer heat.

  12. Wow, green grass for winter? You live in an alternate universe my friend. A lovely universe but definitely not one I'm unable to comprehend.

  14. Oh my gosh that's a cute picture of Micah and Hyrum! That's fall in any warm climate from Arizona to Hawaii to Puerto Rico. You can wear shorts in the rain but it's good to have a towel to keep the chill off! Love it.

  15. That is hilarious! I thought you might say because your oranges were ripe or something but that is probably winter!

  16. So that's what fall is like in AZ! It's interesting seeing the many different ways people experience fall all over the world. We're still waiting for the leaves to change color but you can definitely feel it in the air and in the cooler temperatures :)

  17. My friend who lives in Phoenix gave up and got rocks. I loved her stories about that. Such a foreign concept to me. We always had grass.
