Whyy Didn't Someone Tell Me?

For those of you who frequent the Sanatorium, you're aware of my cooking aversion. It takes too much time for too little reward.
I signed up to bring a cake to the Relief Society Birthday party tonight. Why? Because it was a contest, and one thing I can knock out of the park is frosting. I had this one in the bag. See?
I started at 5:30 this morning--triple-layer yellow cake from scratch.

Semi-sweet ganache filling with shaved chocolate atop my signature butter cream frosting. WITH a crumb coat, mind you.
I entered triumphant.
The contest had been cancelled.  I didn't even put this much work into Hyrum's birthday cake.  Wish I'd known--Duncan Hines would have been just fine.

It was good.  But it wasn't worth it. Sigh.
And that right there is why, although I often wish I was a foodie and a chef, it just doesn't seem to be worth the time.

  7. I was lucky enough to enjoy the contest cake. Next time just bag the cake and lets enjoy a bowl of frosting. A note to your followers Suzanne - I have 6 and my husband cooks because I HATE IT! it's a terible waste of my time. And to Susan - Why would anyone ever want to make a 14 layer cake? Oh yeah, the fabulously talented people who make eating, for me, such a pleasure.

  11. I can't believe you went through all that and there was no contest to triumph over! That really stinks-I say you pull a great April Fools joke on whoever was supposed to let you in on the cancelled contest.

    It does look yummy though...

  24. Well, it looks gorgeous, and YUMMY. I like making/decorating cakes, but not so much when Tressie decides to stick her fist in it.

Funny that you posted about not liking to cook seeing as Tucker insisted on cooking dinner for me tonight. We'll see how it turns out... ;)
