Belated Foto Friday--Video of a Lifelong Dream

Lily has dreamed of playing Medusa in the sixth grade play, Perseus, ever since the first time she saw it while a mere first grader.  She came home from school that day saying, "When I'm in sixth grade, I'm going to have Mrs. F, and I'm going to be Medusa."

She lived her dream this week.

I had a great time these last two weeks helping them practice--that's me on the piano, in case you're wondering. I don't think I've played the piano that much in YEARS. I was a little rusty, I must admit.

It wasn't Broadway, that's for sure, but this group of kids will never forget the year that Greek myth leaped out of books and became real.

Thanks, Mrs. F. You're one of a dwindling breed of teachers--those who teach to see the light of learning in your kids' eyes.

  1. That's awesome :) I think it's really great that Lily and her classmates get to have so much interaction with what they are learning in class. Much better than just reading things in a textbook and just memorizing facts :) Lily is wonderful in the video!

  3. How cool is that? I wish we had more teachers that understood how to bring literature alive for kids.

  4. These kids will be some of the very few who know and benefit from classic myths. What a great teacher.

  5. The fact that it was Hercules music made it even better. :) Good job, Lil!

  6. What an exceptional teacher you must have at that school. Lily and her classmates will never forget this episode in their school days and surely a seed has been planted.

  7. Loved it! Thane was a little wistful, but I convinced him he wouldn't have been in Mrs. F's class anyways :) So happy for that girl of yours!
