Foto Friday--In Like a Lamb

March 1, 2012--69 degrees, slight breeze.
Are you sure this is in Arizona?  Called an orchid tree and native to Hong Kong, this tree drops flowers from heaven every spring.
Huge magenta flowers.  Over and over and over again until it gets too hot for them to flower--about the beginning of June.
And I am lucky enough to have two of them in my front yard.
Both are so large now that you can see the blooms from the second story.

I love these trees.  Not really very deserty, are they?  Surprised they grow here?  Me too.

This is more what you were thinking, right?  The bottle brush bush, native to Australia.
Bees love them.
I sat out in the yard for half an hour photographing the bees.
One even got entangled in my hair.  I didn't even flinch.  You know AZ has Africanized bees, right?  Still didn't care.
What a way to spend the morning.  I love March.

  1. I love those pink flowers. I have fond memories. My sister lived there near us and everyday we would visit her house she had those petals paving her entry. I loved it.
I am jealous of your weather. Today we had 32 degree temps...but felt like 22 because of 45mph winds.
    NM Spring. Sigh.....

  2. I can't even imagine flowers... Although we have had one of the mildest winters in history. So I'm not complaining. And FYI we are all crushing over Philip Phillips, HeJoon and Jeremy over here at the Bungalow. I personally love Erica's voice. So many good ones, its hard to know. And as for no sugar... I'm two for two. Just can't figure out why I'm not instantly skinny : )

  3. Those flowers are out of this world. I can't wait to see some colour up here. I'm sure that as few as 2 days of warmth would bring everything to bloom.

  4. How lucky are you!!??! I am honestly jealous... it is supposed to be eight degrees today and we had a snow storm last night.

wish I was there with you this morning having coffee outside!
    ENJOY!

  5. I don't think I ever saw those kinds of trees when I lived there. I do remember having those in our yard in Florida though. So beautiful.
Right now, our trees are still bare here in Colorado. Altho I have seen some daffodil bulbs starting to push up so that's encouraging. I love the Orange blossoms that bloom there in April. Smells so good!

  7. Hi Jen, I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I say that tree! Simply gorgeous!! I have always enjoyed the bottle brush trees also. Too cold to grow them here in UT. I love March and April. However we have snow still on the ground here. More than we've had all Winter. I am so ready for Spring! Cute pictures of your missionary on the sidebar!
    Hugs,
