Rugby

One of the most rewarding parts of being a mother is watching your child discover something they love.
This guy loves rugby.
Everything about it.
I know not a single rule of the game.  I know that scoring is called "a try" and that there are different point values assigned to different things, but that's about all I know.  Oh, and that they hit each other a lot--and HARD--and there's something called a scrum, but I don't know much more than that it's a huddle of some kind.

All I know?
I love him, and if he loves rugby, then so do I.

  1. Rugby scares me. Not that I have ever played or anything. How great though that he has found he loves it!
And I won't mention how jealous I am that there are people actually SWIMMING in the background. Sigh...all we have is wind, sand and more wind.

  2. Jen, you definitely need to visit New Zealand - home of the world champions in rugby, the All Blacks. I grew up in a house with four brothers and a Dad and Nana who lived and breathed rugby. Dad often will check the rugby calendar before committing to anything. Hope Ben is enjoying playing without all the padding used in American Football!! Catherine

  6. I'm not sure of the rules of rugby but agree with you. When your child likes something - you go with it. Great set of action shots too!

  7. I love those black and white pictures. I don't know anything about rugby either...but I know how you feel. A few years ago I didn't know anything about tennis. It's pretty cool what our kids introduce us to!

  8. There's something about a photo taken with a camera aimed with a mother's love - these are all winners!
Rugby - not my game, although my nephew played university rugby. It's such a rough game. Perhaps I shouldn't say anything about missing ear lobes .......

  14. THat's cool. I love rugby. I may have mentioned before that my step son plays. Top ranked collegiate player in the country. Cool kid. Very cool kid.

I think that the kids who play rugby learn some valuable lessons that kids playing other sports miss.
