What Happens When . . .

What happens when your son turns 16 and your birthday cake attempt looks like this?
First, you get mad.  Real mad.  Like slamming pans and stomping feet mad.

Then, you look up cake balls on Pinterest.

Then, you make the world's ugliest cake balls.

Ugly didn't even do them justice.  I didn't stage them or anything, just pulled them out of the freezer and told the group to dive in.  My mother-in-law was in town.  Even more humiliating

What happens when you make your sixteen-year-old son the world's ugliest cake balls for his birthday cake?

Your six-year-old nephew tells you they are the most delicious cake he's ever eaten.  Then he gives you a hug and tells you you're a better cake maker than the Cake Boss.

Look out, Carlo.  TLC may be calling me.
Cake Destroyer is the working title.

  7. Cake balls are hard! I tried making them once and crumbled them into a giant pan of mush I was so mad. I never had luck with cakes in AZ, too dry

  9. one wonderful aspect of being the mother of a 16 year old boy, is that to him those cake balls tasted just as delicious as a perfectly turned out cake would have. Happy Birthday to your young man!

  10. Or wait - have you read the blog "Cake Wrecks?" It's a good one. But seriously - we've all had wrecks and your six year old nephew did not lie - I'll bet it did taste really good! Gotta love those 6 year old nephews. And for what it's worth, I've heard that cake balls are really difficult to make. Yes, Bakerella makes them look easy. That's why she's Bakerella.

  11. You are a better recoverer than me. I would have mushed glued with icing and shaped that baked mess in to a master piece if it killed me! Haha.~Ames

  18. I think cake balls were invented by someone who ruined a cake. I know that's when We make them.
