Hyrum's First Wiggly Tooth

I don't remember exactly when my fascination for pulling teeth began--probably when Heidi started losing her baby teeth.

There's something about yanking that tooth free that I love.  Weird, right?

Most of the kids have allowed me to pull most of their first teeth.  Even my nieces and nephews know that if they have a tooth stubbornly holding on by a few flaps of skin, they can call me and I'll gladly come assist them.  Once, my nephew had a particularly difficult tooth to pull --it already had big teeth on both sides and the new tooth had come in behind the baby tooth so the root hadn't dissolved.  His mom and I cajoled him and begged him, and finally bribed him (with $15) to let me pull it.  That incident has become family legend:  "Remember when Aunt Jenny pulled Sam's tooth for $15?"  It was worth it, for all of us.

Micah has been unwilling to use my services, much to my annoyance.  No matter how much I beg him, he refuses my help, instead letting a tooth hang by a string for days on end, crying anytime food gets anywhere close to the dangling tooth.

Lucky for me, Hyrum asked me one day if his tooth was loose.
None of my kids has lost a tooth in kindergarten (Heidi lost her first tooth the last month of first grade), so I had my doubts that this was anything exciting.

I was wrong.
It wasn't quite as loose as I normally like, but I couldn't resist the offer to pull a tooth!

After two attempts, the tooth was out, and he was off before we could even snap a picture of his new smile, blood trickling from the new gap in his mouth.

One down, many left to go.

  1. Ick. I am not a tooth puller. John just had a really wiggly one, and he complained that it was hurting. My husband said, "Let me take a look at that", and pulled it out. "Now it won't hurt anymore" he said. Done.

  2. I am right there with you. Infact I just pulled another tooth from my first graders mouth yesterday morning. She said her tooth was bothering her. I always trick at point. Telling them it would be best if I take a look at it. Unbeknownst to me her adult tooth had been growing behind it, so out that tooth came. I love it!

  3. I don't like to assist in the tooth pulling. My kids always had to work it out for themselves...

    which they did!

  4. I love pulling teeth!! Holly wouldn't let me pull as many as the other kids. Dylan has yet to lose any. Hopefully he will let me do some pulling. Congrats Hyrum!!

  5. I'm so with you on that Jenny... I have even bribed Paige's kids to let me pull their teeth.

  6. heave!!! i must admit, it grosses me out. i don't do puke and i don't do teeth. such a right of passage, nonetheless.:)
