The end of the world was slated for 12/21/12, according to the Mayans.
After yesterday, I believe that they just messed up their Arabic numbers. Yesterday was 02/20/13, and it must have signaled the beginning of the end of the world because it snowed in Mesa, AZ. You hadn't heard? Really? Because you'd think that the world was coming to an end the way people around here reacted.
People who have lived in AZ all their lives were commenting last night on how they'd never seen anything like it. Here are a few of our pictures of the freak snow (some are calling it graupel, but it was more like sleet/snow/slush falling from the heavens):
The above pictures were from last night, and the next two are from this morning.
I can't believe we spent all day Monday planting those flowers. I hope they survive, but my hopes are low.
This is the stadium where Arizona Diamondbacks' baseball spring training has started:
The caption read: "This has to be good luck. Or the end of the world."
I'll let you and the Mayans decide.
And here's a video of our house during the storm:
Wow. What a day, one my kids will always remember, that's for sure--the day white stuff blanketed the Valley of the Sun.

Let the poor girl go change her wet clothes! What a day!
ReplyDeleteIt was truly amazing weather and such variety... Sunshine, rain, sleet, hail, snow, thunder, lightening...and in the end the most spectacular sunset and double rainbow. I've lived here my whole life and have never seen anything like it. Love these experiences.
ReplyDeleteOnce, when I was about Lily's age, it snowed in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, where we lived.
ReplyDeleteI will seriously never forget it! We were so delighted. And they canceled school, too.
=)
Great experience for AZ kids! I bet your pansies do just fine. I have some by the house that are still alive even though we have had one of the coldest winters I can remember.
ReplyDeleteLove your kids choice of clothing for playing in the snow ;) Definitely from Arizona.
ReplyDeleteThat is so amazing! Totally normal for us.
ReplyDeleteWhat isn't normal for February is seeing a tomato plant in the ground!
Wow!
Wouldn't you know it, we live a mile from you and didn't see one bit of the white stuff - not even a little! A little jealous :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part was Evie in the video. Let's talk about how I totally MISSED the freaking snow falling. I was just inside doing NOTHING. Saw it after, but still. How fun to have that video and remember this crazy, record setting day in AZ!

ReplyDeleteI completely missed the snow! I had a class yesterday afternoon. When I went in it was still just kind of sprinkling. When I got out of class it was the same...2 hours later. In those 2 hours it snowed then melted! I got home and checked my facebook to find a ton of snow pictures. Funny enough I have seen it snow in Phoenix. It was a long time ago but none the less I have seen snow in Phoenix :)
ReplyDeleteI read your post the other morning before I left for work...and it had me laughing for so many different reasons! I sure hope you guys didn't have a snow delay because of that little bit of slush! :) LOVE the video at the end...poor Evie...she justs wants to changer her clothes! What a great little clip to have!!
