Photography Class--The Egg

Since this week is our Spring Break, I decided to use the time to share a little something that I've been working on.

I recently completed a photography class offered by a local professional photographer (here is his website if you're interested). Every Thursday night for seven weeks, I would spend over two hours in his studio, listening to his decades of wisdom about photography and submitting my photography assignments for the week to him for evaluation.

Midway through the course, we were given an assignment to shoot an egg in different lights, and this assignment is where I began to see my images change from just okay to more of what I want to do as a photographer.

These two images are my favorites.

Same egg.  Different lighting.  Amazing, isn't it?

I saw my skills improve weekly, and I am so glad I took this course.  Although Brandt's photographic style is very different from the one I am trying to develop in myself, his information and skill have become part of how I see light and composition and how I use lenses and flash (hopefully I'll be able to conquer my inexperience with the flash soon). I overcame my fear of shooting in RAW, and I am learning to see things differently as I think more like a photographer when my camera is in my hands, and even when it's not.

If you are looking for a local class, give Brandt a call.  He is kind, patient, positive, and knowledgeable.  And I'm not being paid in any way to say that, so you know it's true, right?
