This Could Only Happen at Our House

Summer is winding down.  School starts in just nine days.  Really?  Nine days?

I have tons of pictures to edit from our trip.  I have tons of laundry in the washer.  I have tons of emails to sift through.  I have ten miles to run today.

My blogging creativity seems to have disappeared--on vacation, perhaps.  Hopefully it will return soon.

In the meantime, here's a funny incident that could only happen at our house.

Remember the carriage wheel/wagon wheel debate?
Brad eventually succumbed to my whim and hung it on the wall.  Somehow, it just never seemed right--wrong proportions or something that I could never quite pinpoint.

A few months ago, Brad removed the wheel and hung this three-panel screen in its place.
It is more in scale with the space and is interesting, but something about it still doesn't quite do it for me.

Anyway, the wheel has yet to find a permanent home since its removal from the wall.  I have it temporarily propped against the wall in the hall, where the kids occasionally roll it back and forth.

This morning, however, there was a wheel catastrophe.

I was mostly awake in my bed, trying to force myself out, when I heard screams from Evie and Micah. "THE WHEEL FELL ON EVIE!!!"

I sprang out of bed and ran down the hall.  That wheel is quite heavy, and I pictured her pinned underneath it.  Luckily, Micah was able to extricate her, and she came running down the hall to me, holding her head.  It gave her a bruise on her cheek and a knot on her forehead, but she's fine, thankfully.

While I was cuddling with her, Tucker came up the stairs, snickered a little under his breath, and muttered

"Death by tchotchke."

Only at the Sanatorium.

It may be time to find a permanent home for that wheel.  Ya think?

  1. Sounds like you need to find the appropriate carriage and attach the wheel.

  6. Sad for Evie, but Tucker's comment is hilarious.

  7. Sorry she's hurt, glad she's okay, and (can't help it!) chuckling to myself...
