Toro Track

Can you count the dust specks on my lens in these photos? So mad I forgot to wipe it. And I'm too lazy to edit them out today . . .

This one's for you, Grandpa.

My dad was a pole vaulter--way back in the 60s. A state record holder. He's waited a long time for one of his kids/grandkids to find that fire within.

Lily found it.

She's still a baby pole vaulter, but she's working hard and learning the body mechanics involved.

 And from the other side

Lily says over and over that pole vaulting is the most exasperating sport ever. Before you hit the mat, you already know you missed.
 And the third attempt.

That's a pretty intense concentration face!

 Got it!

She has really enjoyed vaulting, but she hasn't had an opportunity to compete until this week. It's pretty boring sitting through every track meet without a chance to try it out. This past week the long jump coach asked her if she'd like to try long jump at the meet this week.
 Ok. Sure.

Three attempts. No scratches. She was happy with that.

Tongue hanging out like her dad.

And after every jump, she would tuck and roll right in that sand. Ick.
First try and she cleared 13 feet. I wonder if her loyalty is going to change after this meet . . .
