Why I Blog

Through some serious introspection, I discovered why I blog.

I'm disconnected with every other adult in the universe all day, every day.
I crave adult validation and conversation.
I have not the time nor the energy to pack up all 150 of my kids to venture out somewhere where other adults are talking, discussing or lunching during the day.

I'm a voyeur. I want to know that Paige took John bowling and that he got frustrated. I want to know that Jamie is annoying herself (but no one else and won't tell us what she's doing that is so horrible). I want to see pictures of Maggie and Max and hear how cute and clever they are. I want to see and envy Jannalee's cupcakes and wonder where she finds the time. I want to see Jessica's ultrasound so I have the opportunity to pray for them. I want to see Rachel's youtube videos (which, by the way, I got to work, and are hilarious!). I want to see pictures of me in compromising situations (see this post) on Karen's blog. I want to trick myself into believing that cjane and nienie actually care that I read and envy their blogs. I want to read more about Brittany and her journey right now (and hopefully about that new baby coming). I want to know that Jere is a pigeon-killer and that he feels bad about it.

I'm also in need of validation. I wait on bated breath to see if anyone comments or appreciates or hates my posts. I read and reread my posts, wondering if someone has back-posted. I hope I have a few readers that don't post comments or keep their own blogs (and if you are in that camp, START A BLOG, OR, IF THAT IS TOO MUCH, AT LEAST HAVE THE COURTESY TO POST A COMMENT HERE!).

In short,
Epiphany #12--I blog because it is my only connection with the outside world, helping me remember that I'm still here, even if I'm mostly invisible these days.

So, if you care for me at all (or even if you don't), lead me to believe you do by commenting here and/or posting on yours. Because I guarantee, I check 10000 a day! Love to you all!

  1. I just have to say I love ya! You are so honest and forthright, your posts crack me up. Love them, love you, love your point of view. Have you read "The Art of Racing in the Rain" yet? Let me know if you want to borrow mine, it's the book this month, and I don't think anyone's read it...and I want to be able to talk about the BOOK!

  2. AMEN!!!! I too wait with baited breath to see if anyone comments, and I LOVE to be vouyeristic into other peoples lives too. You hit the nail on the head sister. By the way, you are clever and funny and witty and all those things. Now that you're posting more often, I check to see if you've upated several times a day. I hope I've validated you enough here. Thanks for always making comments on mine. If noone else cares, at least we know WE care about each others blogs. hahahhahaha By the way, LOVE that Brad actually commented on one of my posts. How fun was that.

  4. I can't believe you mentioned me on your BLOG!!! Now I'm like....famous or something! I hear you. I do the same thing. After writing what I feel to be a GREAT post, then there are no comments, and I think, "What the heck? That was a GREAT post? Why are there no comments?" And then I get all worked up about it, etc, etc. So, yes, we do need comments.

  5. Just so you know I check your blog several times a day! I think all bloggers wonder if someone ever looks at their blog (thats why I installed a counter!) That way I know at least someone cares ;)

    Love ya,
    Karen

  6. Jenny,
I love reading your blog. You are a great example for me. I don't comment too often because now I usually only have one free hand to type with:) I also love to blog but am not very good at it. I love to read what people say. Keep up the great posts!
