Snuggles and Make Believe

I went to bed EARLY last night--9:30--hoping to recoup a little of my lost sleep from the night before.

3:50 am--Hyrum's turn to throw up.  This time it's on his floor and mostly in the toilet.

I had a full schedule for today.  That will have to wait.

All Hyrum wants is for me to snuggle him, so I bagged my big furniture plans for the day and sat in my favorite chair with my littlest boy and his silky tucked cozily in my lap.  Eve could tell he wasn't quite well, and she kept trying to hug him.  Then I watched as she pretended the arm of the chair was a faucet, and she began to give Hyrum drinks of water from her hands.  "More--ee?" she would say.  Eventually Hyrum started pretending, and water was flicked and thrown and drunk, time and time again, until he started feeling queasy again.

Thanks for small, temporary stomach bugs that force busy moms to abandon their plans and take time to pretend and snuggle.

I am still hoping all is well soon.  Don't get me wrong.

  1. Poor kid! That's so sweet of Evie to try to help him feel better! I hope that this passes quickly for you guys. We did that last week and it was a horrible three days, but then it had made it through five of us and all was well again. Good luck!

  2. That bug just went thru our house the past 2 weeks. Of course, my yahoos are old enough to head for the bathroom when needed thank goodness.
Hope your little ones are feeling better soon.

  3. I'm so sorry for wee Hyrum, but I hope that by the time you read this he will be feeling better. You wrote few words, but they were exactly enough to let every one of us remember that feeling of having a little one on the lap.

  4. Yes, as much as I don't want my kids o be sick- when they are sick enough they just want to lay and cuddle all day- there is something so nice about that.

  6. Max pulled this last night and today as well. Barfing out of NOWHERE. Thankfully he's a silent barfer and really very sweet. Now, maggie is snoozing on the couch (never a good sign) and Max has put himself to bed. Hoping tonight isn't full of more pukes and poops. Hope your house gets over it completely too.

  7. That bug is going through our school. I had six students absent yesterday and today.

I love it when the kids cuddled. Not so much at 15 and 17, even when their sick.

I hope all is well in the next couple of days.

  8. I just caught up with this post and the last one. Yuck! I am so sorry. I often wish I could have my kids be little again just for a day - but not THAT day.
Why do kids always throw up in the middle of the night? I always wondered that.
Anyway - Evie sounds sweet helping to take care of her brother with the water.
Hope they are on the mend and that you get a good nights sleep.

  12. Despite your efforts to protect Aspen from "The Bug" yesterday- I woke up to the bathroom light on at 3:00am this morning- Aspen was having her turn at the sink- I then noticed a messy towel so I asked "Did you try to clean it up" Aspen says "I throwed up in my bed" Yes indeed- all over her bed and the floor and the sink- She had tried to clean up the trail from the bed to the bathroom- and didn't even wake me up! Pretty remarkable for an almost 3 year old- I currently have two of my sofa cushions in the wash- it was a victim later in the morning. As you said before- so thankful for washers and dryers!

  13. So sorry! We all just had that bug at our house. All four kiddos had it, so lots of mommy time for me! Until it was my turn! Have a great week!

  14. Poor guy. It's funny. It seems like stomach flu used to only come in the summer. And colds only came in the winter. Now the illnesses are all mixed up together.

    What gives?

    =)

  15. Ah. I hope they both feel better. Stuff like that is so tough.
Glad you were able to soak it all in. That lap of yours will be empty way too soon.
