What I Hope They Remember

Our life is noisy.

Our family is noisy.

We often disagree, noisily.

Often there are noisy tears--tears of frustration or hurt feelings or sadness or sickness or even just because your brother punched you in the eye "as hard as he could" and he "didn't do it as hard as I could and it wasn't even that hard."

The noise shows we are alive and well.

I hope they don't just remember the noise.
I hope they remember nights snuggled on the same bed with a thick book of fairy tales highlighted in a fairy flashlight's glow, biggest Little Brother sharing his passion for reading with littlest Little Brother and Littlest Sister.

On nights like these, I let them stay up later and hear just one more story and then just one more--Rapunzel, Thumbelina, Beauty and the Beast.

And they all slept happily all night.

The End.

  1. What I have learned from my kids' many conversations about their youth is that they remember most of the good stuff and hardly any of the bad stuff.

    Isn't it wonderful?

  3. Yes, I think back on my childhood and really mostly remember the good stuff, so hoping it will be the same with my kids.

  4. Such a sweet picture and post. I'm sure your kids will have tons of sweet moments they will carry with them always...mixed in with a tiny bit of noise. :)

  6. That's what's important - that they have learned to be just like that with one another. Amen to what you've said.
