Me and My Bike

I love my bike.
She's nothing fancy.  But she'll take me anywhere I want to go.

She's up with me way before dawn, logging anywhere from six to fifteen miles a day.

She accompanied me to Bread Basket to purchase sweets for my visiting teaching ladies.  Then she helped me deliver them.

She took me to Americopy to drop off materials for my Thursday morning class.

She pulls Hyrum and Evie in their coach with the greatest of ease.

She's allowed me to change out her tires to a more road-friendly version.

She's also tolerated new pedals.  These new pedals and I have a love/hate relationship.  I like being clipped in and able to push and pull while I pedal.  I don't like it when I fall--tip, might be a better word.  I tipped over stopped at a light because I was on the slightest of slopes.  I tipped over in the garage because I forgot I was clipped in--lucky for me I was next to the garbage can, or it could have been serious, that one.

I explained my love for her to Brad this way--she's like a horse.  She takes me everywhere I couldn't really walk and on these trips I see great things.  Not a race horse.  More like a mule, I guess--slow and dependable, hard-working and indestructible.

He helped me think of the perfect name for her.

I'd like you to meet
Petunia

This post is brought to you by the letter B, Jenny Matlock's Alphabe-Thursday.

P.S. Update on one of my favorite B's--Ben twisted his ankle during his game last night. Pulled him out, taped him up. We'll have to see how bad it is when he gets home later. Sigh.

  1. A perfect 'B' letter post. I love that the bike has a name (and a personality to go with it). Thanks for sharing!

  2. I love my bike, too! However, I use mine for exercise and fun, not errands.

  3. When I was a young adult, my bike was my car. I rode it to school, to the beach, the mall or wherever I needed to be. Bikes are awesome.

  7. I haven't been on a bike for so long I'd probably fall over in the first minute!

I kinda like picturing you tooling around town on your bike...

    =)

PS. Hope Ben's ankle is nothing serious. It stinks to get an injury so early in the season.

  8. I love bikes!! My dad and I have even done a couple "races" (more like family fun things) on a tandem. I had the exact same problem with toe clips and my dad found a great solution. They make a clip that goes around the front of your toes, but not the sides of your foot, so you can still push down and pull up and quickly slide your foot out. (Did that make any sense???)

  14. So neat that you have a Trusty Bike and that you spend time together. I bet Petunia has a Bunch of Bike Friends and a Buggy...just an assumption based on all those cute faces on your Banner.

  24. I love my bike too. I've had it since my first year at University many moons ago. Today it doesn't get ridden as much as it is a very bike friendly city we live in. But maybe that is just an excuse. Good for you to keep on pedaling. The early morning rides sound great.

  25. Petunia is a perfect name for that bike that's not a racehorse. It's definitely a mulish name.

  27. Petunia is a perfect pseudonym for your bike (I tried for some alliteration, but pseudonym was pretty pathetic!)

  28. Oh no! I'm sorry about Ben. I hope it's minor.

Petunia is really a charming companion, isn't she? Loved reading about you tooling around on her...don't know how you're managing that in this heat, though!

I heard a rumor we're going to be down in the 90's next week and I am almost giddy with excitement.

Thanks for the fun post! I love the visuals in this! Is Bread Basket the one by the Scrapbook store? I've never been in there!

    A+

  31. I love the name you gave your bike :) It's great that you have such a great companion that does so much with you. Me and bikes don't mix well so we can never have that relationship. Man, I'm feeling bike envy now :)
